American Sign Language Classes
American Sign Language Classes
Taught by Deaf individuals. Open to the community.
We are excited to be able to offer American Sign Language classes for our community.
We will issue certificates of completion based upon three (3) or fewer absences.
Participants must be 16 years of age or older to attend.

Refund Policy
Refunds must be requested in writing within five (5) days of the last class attended.
- After one (1) class—80% refund
- After two (2) classes—50% refund
- No refunds after three (3) classes
Course Descriptions
Level 1A
For students who have no previous experience in sign language or fingerspelling. Students will learn the manual alphabet and to combine words to form simple sentences.
Level 1B
This course will focus on expanding basic vocabulary and basic conversation skills.
Level 2A
This course will focus on expanding basic vocabulary and basic conversation skills.
Level 2B
This course is designed for students who possess a strong basic sign language vocabulary and fluency in expressive and receptive communication.
Level 3
This course will emphasize receptive and expressive discourse with ASL users, focus on non-manual signals, complex grammatical construction, and idiomatic expressions.
Parent/Guardian Class
This course is for deaf and hard of hearing WRSD students' parents and immediate family members. This class will focus more on vocabulary and conversational skills necessary to communicate with your child or family member. All handouts will be translated into Spanish for our Spanish-speaking families.
Spring 2026
Our ASL classes will meet Tuesday evenings at our Longmeadow campus.
Spring 2026 Term
Fall term classes will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00. We will meet for 14 weeks from February 3, 2026 to May 5, 2026.
Note: There are no classes on February 17 and April 21, 2026.
Registration is $175 per term. We have several registration methods available, detailed below. We accept credit/debit cards and checks.

2) At the school building from 6:00 to 6:30 on the evening of the first class, September 9, 2025. This is the only time we will accept checks.
Spring 2026 Term (Parents/Guardians only)
Spring term for Parents/Guardians class will meet virtually on Wednesday evenings.
The Parent/Guardian program is free for parents and guardians of deaf and hard of hearing students who attend Willie Ross School for the Deaf. To sign up for Parent classes, contact Becka Mitchell at rmitchell@wrsdeaf.org.
