DHHP Outreach resources

The Cultural Connections classes will be offered virtually from October 14th through November 11th on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm and 1:1 tutoring opportunities. The classes are ideal for Spanish-speaking families who are looking to learn American Sign Language for their 0–5-year-old DHH child(ren). The classes will be taught by Karen Lopez Ambrosio, a trilingual parent guide. The flyers are attached in English and Spanish. E-mail dhhpoutreach@childrens.harvard.edu if your family would like to attend.

The Family Education and Advocacy Team (FEAT) within the Boston Children’s Hospital Audiology and DHHP programs is hosting two transition workshops for deaf and hard of hearing students and their families this fall.

The Early Intervention to Preschool transition workshop is on Friday, September 26 from 10 am – noon in person at Weston Community Center. Families and caregivers will learn about the transition process, including representatives from Sound Outreach to Schools and the Children’s Specialists with the Massachusetts Commission for the D/HH.

The high school to college transition workshop is on Wednesday, October 8 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm on Zoom. Information regarding housing and classroom accommodations, MassAbility, documentation for services, scholarships and resources will be shared during the workshop.

September is Deaf Awareness Month!  This would be a great opportunity to read books with deaf and hard of hearing characters with your child,  share videos about deaf talent such as Savannah Dahan with KidzBop or learn more about DEAFinitely Inc, a Boston nonprofit organization dedicated to youth and leadership through mentorship and dance.
