ASL at Home has released the second edition of the Spanish curriculum ASL at Home Store — ASL at Home The DHHP Outreach program will incorporate this curriculum in our next Cultural Connections class later this year. The classes and the materials are free for Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers of deaf and hard of hearing children. The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center is hosting a Zoom panel called “Fitting the IEP Pieces Together” for parents and professionals who are involved in IEP meetings. The workshop is on May 15 from 7-8:30 p.m. (EST) through Zoom. The panel will be followed by a Q&A session, moderated by DT Bruno, LSW, LMSW, Professor of Social Work at Gallaudet University. Click here to register for the workshop.

 

The Worcester WooSox baseball team is hosting their annual ASL Night at the WooSox at Polar Park on Friday, May 3 at 6:05 p.m. The WooSox players will wear their ASL jerseys, feature sign language interpreters on the left and right video boards during pregame and in between innings, and closed captioning. PBS Kids has added American Sign Language interpreters to six of their shows, including Arthur, Alma’s Way, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Donkey Hodie, Pinkalicious & Peterrific, and Work It Out Wombats!. Audiences will see that the ASL interpreters are immersed and embedded inside the character’s world. Each series features a different interpreter. The target audience is kids between ages 2-8.

 

UConn's Sign Linguistics and Language Acquisition Lab's Family ASL Research Project is currently recruiting hearing families with deaf toddlers between 2-5 years of age to participate in a research project focusing on how hearing families with deaf children learn ASL together in their home setting.
