We at Willie Ross School for the Deaf work to maximize our students’ intellectual, emotional, and social growth. We are a passionate team of professionals, and we very much value accessibility—in all its forms—in the workplace and classroom. 

WRSD employs the Most Enabling Environment for its students, where placement in an educational setting is based on an assessment of a student's individual strengths and challenges and the environment's capacity to facilitate accessible, quality learning experiences.

In addition, we employ a Total Communication philosophy to our school programs. Individual communication needs of each student are based on comprehensive and ongoing assessment. WRSD utilizes American Sign Language, spoken and written English, spoken English in combination with sign support, as well as any and all augmentative communication tools deemed appropriate by the child’s IEP team.

We strive to build our team of faculty and staff by including those with diverse backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and identities. 

We offer competitive salary and a handsome benefits package that includes life, vision, dental, and supplemental insurance. Our health insurance plan options include two traditional HMO plans as well as a high-deductible HMO plan.  We pay 60% of the health insurance package while the employee pays 40%.  We offer a Health Savings Account that is funded dollar for dollar by WRSD up to $750 (single) or $1,500 (family). 

We also offer a 403(b) retirement plan; we match contributions up to 2% after a year of being employed.

We also offer 16 paid holidays to our staff.
