We are seeking a qualified Teacher of the Deaf to provide a comprehensive educational program for students who are deaf and hard of hearing; to implement individual educational plans within the school’s curricular framework; and to subscribe to and support the school’s mission.

Primary Duties

• Assess and evaluate the educational needs of each child and plan an appropriate educational program.
• Instruct students in all academic areas as assigned. 
• Participate in the writing of each child’s educational plan and attend team reviews.
• Provide written quarterly progress reports and report cards as appropriate.
• Participate in workshops and other in-service training sessions as scheduled during specified school hours.
• Work effectively with Speech-Language Pathologist, Educational Audiologist, and all related service providers.
• Work with other teacher(s) or Instructional Assistant in a team situation.
• Implement and use technology as appropriate to enhance curricula. 
• Maintain records for each child.
• Maintain regular parent communication. 
• Responsible for short and long-term planning of daily lessons and activities and for providing written plans and schedules for substitute teachers.
• Participate in ongoing professional development.

Requirements

• Graduate degree (i.e. MA, MS, M.Ed).
• MA licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf, Special Education Teacher, Early Childhood, or Mild/Moderate Disabilities—or the ability to obtain licensure.
• Fluent sign language skills and comfortable utilizing a total communication approach.
• Experience working with students age 3–22 using differentiated instruction and assessments.
• Competency with required special education processes and documentations (IEPs, progress reports, etc.) 
• Experience working in a school setting.

Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf

WRSD is seeking an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf to join our Outreach division to provide consultation services to Deaf and hard of hearing students based on contracts with school districts as well as implement individual educational plans as requested by the contracting school district.

Primary Duties

• Assess and evaluate the educational needs of each child and plan appropriate educational services as requested by the contracting district.
• Assess and evaluate educational materials and be an active participant in the selection of said materials in conjunction with district staff.
• Instruct students in academic areas as assigned.

Physical Education Teacher

WRSD is seeking a physical education teacher to provide appropriate physical education activities to students aged 3-21.

Primary Duties

• Conduct classes on a weekly basis with students aged 3-21.
• Provide physical education instruction on an appropriate development level.
• Monitor student participation, effort, and attendance and give grades on a quarterly basis. 
• Promote health-related fitness activities which will meet the daily and emergency demands of each student.
• Develop the skills of movement and the knowledge of how and why one moves.
• Assist students in the development of self-confidence and a positive self image.
• Develop an appreciation of and a respect for good physical condition, a functional posture and a sense of personal well being.
• Develop a cooperative attitude toward others and a sense of good sportsmanship.

Requirements

• Masters’ degree. 
• Massachusetts Department of Education certification in Physical Education.
• Intermediate rating on the SLPI or comparable sign language proficiency exam within two years of hire.

School Counselor

WRSD is seeking a qualified School Counselor to provide individual and group counseling for deaf and hard of hearing students in a Total Communication setting. The Counselor will work with teaching staff to develop behavior programs; subscribe to and support the school’s educational and communication philosophy; and provide services and direction to parents and families of our students in the areas of communication, behavioral plans, medical issues, and social/emotional growth. 

Primary Duties

• Provide weekly counseling sessions to students assigned to caseload.
• Provide weekly group counseling sessions.
• Act as a liaison to the school for new students and families.
• Provide home  visits to families as needed.
• Develop behavioral plans, teach sign language to family members and assist families with required paperwork.
• Position may require flexible hours.

Requirements

• Graduate degree (i.e. MA, MS, M.Ed).
• MA licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor or the ability to obtain licensure.
• Fluent sign language skills.
• Ability to adapt to communication methodology to fit the needs of the student or family.

Early Interventionist

WRSD is seeking a qualified Early Interventionist to provide comprehensive unbiased family support to include information and instruction on language modeling and acquisition, educational options, hearing technology support, and communication training. To act as a member of the interdisciplinary team to provide assessments and support for the IFSP.  To assist in the transition to preschool. 

Primary Duties

• Work with infants and toddlers who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families
• Provide early intervention services as designated on the IFSP in the home and in community settings
• Work with families and team members to develop and implement Individual Family Service Plans
• Provide parents with information about deafness, language development, communication options including sign language, family activities, communication skills, and other related information
• Provide educational and emotional support to parents and family members; make referrals to appropriate community resources
• Create and carry out family and developmental playgroups
• Provide service coordination and collaborate with team members from other agencies
• Maintain records of home visits, child progress, and parent education
• Complete reports according to Massachusetts Early Intervention Client System procedures
• Prepare necessary reports for IFSP/IEP meetings
• Participate in workshops and other in-service training sessions as scheduled during specified school hours

Requirements

• Masters’ degree 
• Massachusetts Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf

ASL Specialist (Tuition)

• Evaluate each student’s American Sign Language development using formative assessments regularly. 
• Participate, as required, in Willie Ross School meetings and serve on committees when requested by an administrator.
• Participate in workshops and other in-service training sessions as scheduled during specified school hours.
• Work effectively with the Classroom Teachers, Speech-Language Pathologist, Educational Audiologist, and all related service providers.
• Work with other teacher(s) or Instructional Assistant in a team situation.
• Implement and use technology as appropriate to enhance curricula. 
• Maintain records for each child.
• Responsible for short and long-term planning of daily lessons and activities and for providing written plans and schedules for substitute teachers.

Requirements

• Masters degree.
• Preferred Massachusetts Certification as a Foreign Language Teacher.
• Superior Plus rating on the SLPI exam or comparable sign language proficiency exam within two years of hire.

Spanish Translator

WRSD is seeking a Spanish Translator to provide translation services, both verbally and in print, to afford both the school and parents who communicate in Spanish opportunities to communicate by telephone, in writing, and in person. 

Primary Duties

• Translation of any and all materials to be sent home to parents, correspondence from the families, and all documents. 
• Interpret phone calls between staff members and parents. 
• Attend and translate all meetings for Spanish consumers. 
• Manage incoming calls and relay the message to the appropriate staff member including how and when to call back. 

Requirements

• Appropriate certificate in interpreting/translation required. 
• Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
• Knowledge of educational processes and nomenclature. 
• Fluency in spoken Spanish and English.
• Ability to translate Spanish to English and English to Spanish verbally and in print.
• Knowledge of computer-based word processing systems.
